Λόγω της μεγαλύτερης αλληλεξάρτησης με άλλες σημαντικές παγκόσμιες οικονομίες, το σύστημα της Κίνας είναι πολύ πιο ευάλωτο στις γεωπολιτικές διαταραχές από όσο της Ρωσίας. Και ως μια πιο ωφελημένη από την φιλελεύθερη διεθνή οικονομική τάξη από όσο η Ρωσία, η Κίνα είναι επιφυλακτική στο να ανταγωνιστεί τον τελικό εγγυητή της τάξης αυτής, τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες.
